Who Is Attorney Young-Woo’s Mother?
Young-woo is an associate attorney at Hanbada law firm and finds herself struggling with difficult cases at this renowned law firm, while she is also developing romantic feelings towards one of their lawyers and uncovering information about her birth mother’s past.
Young-woo repeatedly interrupts her questioning of the witness for minor errors such as rounding statistics or mispronouncing words; when this occurs, the judge quickly picks up on it and laughs knowingly.
What is she like?
Woo Young-woo is an autistic lawyer who was raised alongside only one friend: Dong Geu-ra-mi. Despite her unique upbringing, she excels at law school and completed top of her class at Seoul National University. Utilizing her photographic memory and intelligence she successfully secured employment at Hanbada Law Firm located in Seoul City; although initially intimidated by senior attorneys at work she managed to overpower them through innovative approach to cases.
Young-woo and Choi Soo-yeon become emotionally invested in Gye Hyang-sim’s case during her initial defense hearing. Gye was arrested after demanding money from an individual who was brutally beaten, before fleeing with her daughter for safety purposes before returning for punishment. Young-woo becomes emotionally invested in this matter along with Choi Soo-yeon who becomes her legal colleague on this defense case.
Choi and Young-woo use their questions in court to elicit information from a witness, who then relays how she had to take care of her daughter before returning to the police station after her capture. She mentions working as a cleaner and living in an adjoining spare room together. Young-woo reassures her that everything will turn out alright while also reminding her she remains as committed to her child like whale mothers who remain devoted to their young.
As the trial progresses, Choi and Young-woo become increasingly confident in their arguments. Utilizing knowledge of sexism as evidence against their client, they use evidence that she was being discriminated against to show she is being victimized; additionally they point out that her victim’s husband had an affair with her which may have contributed to her desire for revenge against him. After deliberations time passes by the jury agrees on a four year sentence.
What is her personality like?
She’s a kind and gentle soul with an open heart who genuinely cares for all animals – even those that may cause irritation (critters). Additionally, she works closely with a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation organization which gives her the satisfaction that comes from doing something good for the world.
Her intelligence and photographic memory combined make her an excellent lawyer, graduating top of her law school class and working at Hanbada in Seoul as an associate lawyer. She’s smart, ambitious and occasionally quirky!
Although autistic, she’s determined to succeed and is willing to put in hard work – her hard work eventually pays off when she becomes the best in her department. While somewhat eccentric in appearance, she still remains loving and caring towards others – not afraid to explore new experiences such as walking through a revolving door or trying meat for the first time!
At work, she strives for perfection and accepts nothing less. Jung admires her drive and dedication despite having autism himself; he trusts her with difficult cases knowing they will be handled meticulously and carefully by his employee.
Young-woo is in court accusing an abusive husband, and finds the evidence against him to be weak. An eavesdropping husband overheard their older brothers pressuring their mother into giving up sole control of her inheritance and money from the estate to them. Young-woo advises Geu-ra-mi to cause an incident at her grandfather’s memorial that will provoke attacks from abusers before blackmailing them by saying he helped. She agrees to assist him without breaching attorney-client privilege.
What is her strength?
Young-woo possesses a keen intellect and uncompromising sense of right and wrong. Born out of wedlock and raised by a single father who never wanted her to get married or have children, she has always been highly independent. Since childhood she had an interest in law which she pursued to top grades before graduating law school with honors grades; yet as someone with autism she struggles to find employment.
She possesses an acute sense of justice, never shying away from standing up against injustice or mistreatment of people and emotions, while showing great compassion toward those in need. However, her eccentric personality often causes trouble as she tends to overreact and respond with extreme reactions.
Jung Myung-seok has always been extremely kind and supportive towards her despite any initial misgivings he may have had about her abilities. He places great faith in her abilities and provides assistance whenever necessary; not becoming annoyed when she talks about whales or other non-case related topics during a case, allowing her to express herself freely.
Choi Su-yeon is another strong female associate who stands up for Young-woo. When they feel that their superiors at the firm have treated them unfairly, she advocates vigorously on Young-woo’s behalf – including in an incident involving Geumgang, whom is being accused of coercing his wives to resign by threatening their husbands’ jobs.
Young-woo and Gye Hyang-sim meet at a detention centre. She and Young-woo argue that Gye was battered and robbed by his husband before fleeing in order to escape punishment. Hyang-sim tears up while explaining why she has remained an outlaw for five years.
What is her weakness?
Attorney Woo is an exceptional legal mind with autism who graduated law school with flying colors but struggled to secure employment at law firms. She’s passionate about legal matters, enjoys solving cases creatively and isn’t afraid to express herself and stand up for what she believes in – even after being bullied by partners at her previous law firm they eventually apologized and offered her work at their firm again.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo’s cases often present complex legal and ethical dilemmas. One such instance involved an environmental highway project where Attorney Woo used her eidetic memory to expose Hanbada CEO Su-mi Han, daughter of Han Seonyoung’s, for colluding with government agencies to force through construction.
After much deliberation, the jury issues its verdict and Judge Ryu affirms it. Mother Gye was charged with misdemeanor, yet she requests special consideration be given when passing judgment on her case.
Outside the courthouse, Attorney Choi applauds Young Woo on her victory and tells her he’s proud of her; Young Woo responds that he should also be proud of himself for sticking to his dream even when it became difficult. Attorney Choi then contacts the victim, only to be shocked when she reports her husband is abusing her.
He decides to hire an investigator, who then begins tracking down the woman living downstairs and discovering that she calls police every time her husband hits his wife; plans are made to obtain records of those calls from authorities.
What is her love life like?
Attorney Young-woo’s cases frequently encompass complex legal and ethical dilemmas. Her unique approach to solving them has earned her widespread respect amongst her colleagues; her affinity with marine mammals such as whales is another source of wisdom when faced with situations outside her expertise.
Episode 8 of Extraordinary Attorney Woo revealed that Tae Su-mi, her birth mother, is still living and well. Though Woo was raised by only one parent, their connection remains strong.
Attorney Young-woo is an exceptionally clever girl, always coming up with new ways to resolve cases. Not afraid of trying new experiences – like walking through revolving doors or tasting meat for the first time – she does not let autism stop her from reaching her goals and has proven adept at overcoming any obstacle that stands in her way.
Case that she’s working on involves a husband who killed his wife following an argument. She locates a witness who lives nearby who heard the husband beat his wife; and asks Jun ho to accompany her in meeting this lady.
As they arrive at the house, she attempts to knock, but no response comes back from inside. After calling the police again and going back to secure records of that call from Jun Ho, he discovers that every time her husband beats her she calls the police station; providing evidence against him. This provides them with enough proof to win their case against him.
